The NRA of America Basic Metallic Reloading Course  is designed to enable shooters with little or no prior experience in reloading to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to produce safe, consistent and accurate reloaded ammunition.

The NRA Basic Metallic Reloading Course is the result of a joint effort involving the NRA Education & Training Division, the members of the National Reloading Manufacturers Association (NRMA), prominent manufacturers of ammunition, firearms and reloading equipment, and other organizations and individuals having specialized skills and expertise in reloading, ballistics and related topics. Every effort has been made to provide the necessary basic information to reload.

Through this course, the student will learn basic reloading procedures; information about choosing powders, primers, and bullets; information about different types of reloading equipment; and their proper setup and operation. Note that the course is designed to impart knowledge on the reloading process, not to give loads for specific cartridges. Load information must be obtained from the reloading manuals published by the manufacturers of reloading components.

Courses are run by a qualified instructor on an occasional basis. Group sizes are small, usually around 4 people and never over 6.  The course lasts one day and usually starts at 8 o'clock and ends around 6 o'clock. You will need to bring a packed lunch and it needs to be the sort of food you can eat while working. Alternatively the course can be run over 2 days at  additional cost.

Each student will receive a reloading handbook as published by the NRA of America for this course as well as a few other leaflets. The handbook is full of useful information and will be a good reference during the day and for many years of reloading ahead. The cost of the hand book is included in the course fee

The course consists of 6 lessons most of which have hands on elements to them. the final hour is a multi choice exam, this is an open book exam which means you can look in the hand book for the answers if you need to. I have yet to have someone fail.

By the end of the day you will have reloaded you first rounds, these are usually 308 Winchester and 357 magnum. if you have an FAC with these calibres on it, you may take them away to be fired. It would be illegal for you to have ammunition you do not have authority to possess, so you will need to have your FAC if you do with to take them away.

The course fee as of 15-09-2009 is £60.00 per person with a minimum of 4 people on the course. I can run the course for less people but the overall price will be the same at £240.00.

The next course will be in response to demand  . If you would like to reserve a place then email you interest. there will be a deposit payable nearer the date.
